Ban Hate Speeches

BY THE EDITOR

Hate speeches incite people to commit violence and which if unchecked and uncontrolled may lead to fatal consequences. In diverse societies it is very important for people belonging to different cultures and religions, et cetera to respect each other and learn to co-exist in peace and communal harmony. However there may be some exceptionally few extremists who will insist that their community is the best and so there is no place for others. If such selfish   elements are not nipped in the bud then there is danger that the spark will escalate further until its flames burn with fury and hence beyond control. It is highly imperative for government to be very vigilant and maintain peace and tranquility at all cost.

The communal violence that started at Nuh district, Haryana about two weeks ago and which spread to other neighbouring areas claimed number of lives and many injured majority of whom were minority members.  The Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar promised strict actions were being taken and the culprits would not be spared. Self-styled cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi who was suspected to be the kingpin behind communal violence was apprehended last week and remanded in judicial custody on August 17 for two weeks. According to police information two

swords were recovered from his possession. Bajrangi was arrested under the Arms Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code including rioting, criminal intimidation, and assault to prevent public servant from discharging duty. It may be noted that orthodox elements among Hindus who do not consume beef considering the cow as sacred take it upon themselves to prevent others from killing the cow and eating its meat. Cow vigilantes like Bittu Bajrangi who consider themselves as protectors of the sacred animal do not mind at all in taking the law in their own hands as they presume that they are performing their duty.

Bajrangi who is in his late 50s is of humble origin selling vegetables and fruits in Faridabad, Haryana came originally from Okhla in Delhi more than three decades ago. In a matter of time he was drawn towards Hindu extreme elements and six years back he and a few friends started a cow vigilante group known as Goraksha Bajrang Force. Gradually the group expanded having about 500-odd members with him as its national president. His main interest was to unite Hindus and so organised various activities like motorcycle rallies and blood donation camps to attract them. He is a fanatic who cannot tolerate others. During the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s procession in Nuh on July 31 Bajrangi and his accomplices had wielded swords and tridents. Earlier Bajrangi was known to upload provocative posts on social media prior to the procession in Nuh. He was on previous occasions arrested for involving in hate speeches in Faridabad.
