Bangladesh intruder killed by villagers in Garo Hills

Monday night’s incident happened in the Balujora village area of Purakhasia border belt around 10:30 PM in which three of the intruders had crossed the border managing to even get through the border fencing.

TURA:

A Bangladeshi intruder who sneaked into Garo Hills from across the border in Purakhasia region of West Garo Hills has been killed by angry villagers after a hot chase late May 1 night.

This is the second instance of Bangladeshis illegally entering the region from the Purakhasia sector despite the presence of BSF border guards manning the border.

Monday night’s incident happened in the Balujora village area of Purakhasia border belt around 10:30 PM in which three of the intruders had crossed the border managing to even get through the border fencing.

A BSF guard on duty is said to have spotted the three men crossing but was unable to nab them as they took advantage of the darkness to enter deeper into Indian territory.

Villagers managed to apprehend one of the men who identified himself as Monirul Hussain (43 years). He claimed that he had entered India with two other accomplices to procure ganja (marijuana).

What was startling was the confession by the foreign national who told the angry villagers that they were able to jump across the two layered border fencing easily.

Already fearful and angry with the previous intrusion by two other foreign nationals in the area, the villagers took the law into their own hands and gave the intruder a sound thrashing. By the time he was handed over to police and taken to the nearest health centre in Purakhasia, the victim had passed away from his injuries.

The worrying factor for border villagers are the easy manner in which the foreign nationals are crossing the border, despite presence of fencing, and fear of a return to the dark days of recent years when a spate of robberies and theft of vehicles and cattle took place are being anticipated.

On April 30th two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended from the same area by the BSF, but that happened after a gap of two days since their entry.
