SHILLONG:

Cabinet Minister and president of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Banteidor Lyngdoh has cleared the air about him fighting the 2023 polls on the part’s ticket but expressed doubts about other leaders of the party.

“I will be contesting 2023 polls on a PDF ticket. However, I won’t be able to say not about the others as there is no clear message from them yet. Gavin (Mylliemngap), who is the MLA of Sohra, and I have made it clear in the central executive committee meeting that we will contest from the PDF,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a programme, on August 12.

The PDF is an ally of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) and have four legislators – Lyngdoh from Mawkynrew, Hamlet Dohling from Mylliem, Gavin Mylliemngap from Sohra, and Jason Mawlong from Umsning.

There has been a lot of speculation going around that two legislators of PDF are set to leave the party ahead of the 2023 polls. And earlier on August8, the party had sought a clarification from its MLA and cabinet minister Hamlet Dohling on speculation that he will likely switch camp to join the NPP.

Asked as to how many seats the party will put up candidate, he said that the party has decided to contest in 15-20 seats and have already decided on the candidates.
