Bharat name enshrined in Constitution, nothing wrong in using it: Conrad

Stating that the constitution is being followed, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that in many of his speeches in Hindi, he has used Bharat all the time.

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on September 12, clarified that Bharat name has always been there in the Constitution, and its usage depends on the language we are communicating in.

Sangma was reacting to reports of India being renamed as Bharat, wherein he asserted that resolution has not been passed, and the public are blowing the issue out of proportion.

“When I speak in Hindi, I will use Bharat, and when I speak in English, I will use the term, India. India and Bharat are relative terms in the Constitution, so there is no controversy, and we are creating a controversy when there is no issue at all,” Sangma told media persons.

Stating that the constitution is being followed, Sangma said that in many of his speeches in Hindi, he has used Bharat all the time.

“It is the question of using the language, and I don’t think there is anything wrong in using either the term India or Bharat. All depends on the situation you are in. The constitution mandates us to use either of the names.” Sangma maintained.
