NONGPOH:
Roars of over 100 bike engines reverberated over the National Highway 37 as bikers riding their two-wheelers zoomed passed onlookers on the way from Nongpoh to Umroi, on April 29.
Organised as a part of the ongoing North East Festival 2022, the bike rally was flagged off from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Nongpoh, and went through Byrnihat before culminating at Umroi.
Themed “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, the bike rally was organised to spread awareness about educating the girl child.
Ri Bhoi DC Arpit Upadhyaya, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, flagged off the rally in presence of additional DC MB Tongper, and the president of the Royal Enfield Biker’s Association of Meghalaya (RERAM), DD Umdor, at the office of the DC.
Speaking at the do, Upadhyaya lauded the people of the district for securing the fifth position among the aspirational districts as per NITI Aayog rankings and hoped for the district to bag the top position in the country.
Notably, the North East Festival 2022 which kicked off on April 28, is being celebrated under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav observed across India to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence.
