Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation visit Meghalaya to review the existing healthcare infrastructure

Shillong, April 5: Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation visited the state to gain insights into Meghalaya’s existing healthcare infrastructure, with a particular focus on reproductive health, child health, nutrition, primary healthcare, supply chain management, and the structure and functioning of key institutions such as the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC), Reproductive Health and Family Welfare Training Centre (RHFWTC), Nursing Department, and Digital Health initiatives.

The meeting was held on Thursday, and was chaired by Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare for the Government of Meghalaya. It is an initiative for a collaborative effort towards bolstering public health initiatives in the state.

The discussions revolved around identifying areas for improvement, sharing best practices, and exploring potential avenues for collaboration to address critical healthcare needs. The partnership between the Meghalaya government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses to develop the healthcare sector with special emphasis on reproductive health, and child welfare.

Collaboration between governmental bodies and international organizations brings in external expertise and support for the overall development of the healthcare infrastructure. The collaborative effort aims to catalyse positive changes that will benefit communities across the state. The partnership will strengthen the healthcare system and pave way for sustainable development and improved health outcomes for the citizens of Meghalaya.
