Post poll results, BJP-backed miscreants vandalised CPI-M offices: Jitendra Chowdhury

Chowdhury wrote a letter to Biplab Kumar Deb demanding an investigation into these incidents, along with compensation to the people who have come under attack.

AGARTALA:

In the light of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning four out of five states assembly polls, the principal opposition party in Tripura, the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M), on March 11, alleged that in the last 24 hours, several incidents of violence and arson, including attacks on political opponents and locals, have been perpetrated by BJP-backed miscreants in the state.

Addressing a press conference, party secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury said that many CPI-M party offices and houses of party supporters, including their shops, came under attack, with the announcement of poll results in Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa, UP and Punjab.

“At least 39 such incidents took place across Tripura in last 24 hours where BJP supporters vandalised CPI-M party offices, houses and shops of party workers. A few party offices too were set ablaze,” he said.

Terming these attacks undemocratic and fascist, Chowdhury alleged that seven offices were attacked on March 10 taking the number of such attacks on CPI-M offices to 1000.

“Though the police have played their role in controlling the situation yesterday, no arrests have been made so far. The chief minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, who also holds the portfolio of Home Minister, is yet to react,” he added.

Emphasising that BJP supporters torched a CPI-M party office in AD Nagar area of Agartala, Chowdhury maintained that the locals informed fire service personnel who came on time, but weren’t allowed to perform their duty by the BJP supporters.

The latter chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jay” while indulging in violent acts, he alleged.

Chowdhury also wrote a letter to Deb demanding an investigation into these incidents along with compensation to the people who have come under attack.
