SHILLONG:
Meghalaya BJP is eyeing the Sohiong seat with a hope of increasing the party’s seat tally to three as it prepares for the upcoming assembly polls in Sohiong constituency.
Sohiong will go to polls on May 10 and counting will be held on May 13. Election in this constituency was adjourned due to the demise of former minister and candidate of the United Democratic Party (UDP) HDR Lyngdoh on February 20.
“The BJP has brought many central schemes to Meghalaya,” BJP state vice president David Kharsati said, while exhorting the party workers to work towards ensuring that the party candidate — Seraph Eric Kharbuki emerges victorious.
He further reiterated that BJP is not against Christians but against those who try to sabotage and tarnish the image of India.
Leaders of the state party unit who included Kharsati, spokespersons HM Shangpliang and M Kharkrang and state general secretary C Nongbet had visited Sohiong on April 15 to strengthen the party in Sohiong and to extend their support to the party candidate Seraph Eric Kharbuki.
Confident of winning the election, party candidate Seraph Eric Kharbuki said that the BJP is now in a position to capture the seat, “because voters are inclined to vote in favour of a party that is at the centre.”
“The people of Sohiong are no fools as to they do not wish to waste their valuable votes. They are in favour of the BJP that can guarantee their livelihood” he said.
Similarly, Sohiong unit general secretary Wonder Lapang said that amidst the growing claims and counter claims by different political parties to show off their majority and popularity, BJP is a silent mover. “It is working silently and just like cancer, it will soon reach the final stage and no one can stop it,” he said.
