TURA:
Tura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MDC of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu, who had been sent to police custody multiple times for almost a month since his arrest from Uttar Pradesh, was finally sent to judicial custody and incarcerated in Tura district jail on August 29.
“He has been given judicial custody since the police custody ended yesterday,” informed West Garo Hills SP Vivekanand Singh Rathore.
The police chief further said that investigation into various cases of the arrested BJP leader is continuing.
Bernard was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including Immoral Trafficking Act for a case involving rape of a minor in his farmhouse. He was further arrested again under the Explosives Act after bomb making gelatin sticks were recovered from his farmhouse.
In the first case of Immoral Trafficking the court of the chief judicial magistrate sent him to police custody for two weeks before he obtained respite in a judicial custody.
He was, however, arrested a couple of hours later from the jail and again sent to police custody after explosives were recovered from his farmhouse. The police custody under the Explosives Act came to an end on Monday.
