BJP releases manifesto; vows to implement various developmental schemes

SHILLONG:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda, on February 15, released the party’s manifesto (Empower Meghalaya) in the presence of state president Ernest Mawrie, national secretary Rituraj Sinha, candidates — Sanbor Shullai, AL Hek and HM Shangpliang at Taj Vivanta, Shillong.

Under the theme Modi with Meghalaya, Nadda said the manifesto includes a list of things to do for the state once BJP comes to power.

Some of these include — implementation of the 7th pay commission; disbursement of salaries of employees on time, enhancement of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme by Rs 2000, launching of Ka Phan Nonglait scheme wherein when a girl child is born, a bond of Rs 50,000 will be provided, free education to woman and girl child from Kindergarten to Post Graduate, free scooty (two-wheeler) to all meritorious college-going female students belonging to financially weak households and 33 per cent reservation in government jobs for people with disabilities under the Bertha Gyndykes Dkhar scheme.

Furthermore, they will provide two LPG cylinders annually to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana scheme.

For the youths, a skill training system will be set up where 3,50,000 self-employment opportunities will be provided; two special economic zones (SEZs), industrial units, an additional IT park, banking and hospitality industries will be set up in the next five years.

Canteens with locally made nutritious meals at Rs 5 per plate will be introduced, monthly financial assistance of Rs 1000 to unemployed graduates for a year so that they can sustain themselves.

For the senior citizens, their pension will be doubled to Rs 1000 per month, the Ayushman scheme will be increased from 5 lakh to 10 lakh, setting up of medical colleges in different regions, 100% coverage of Pradhan Mantri Awass Yojana which means that in Meghalaya no one will reside in Kaccha Makaans – everyone will have Pakka Makaans with two rooms, washroom, kitchen, gas connection and a courtyard.

Moreover, a task force to check illegal mining and to promote scientific mining will be introduced, establishment of permanent outposts and relsolving the Assam-Meghalaya border issue and setting up of a special task force under a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate all cases of corruption.
