BJP to submit report on dome debacle to Centre

Former minister AL Hek He reiterated that the responsibility of the debacle should be fixed on the concerned department and contractors who are engaged with the construction of the building.

SHILLONG:

The coalition partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be submitting a report on the recent collapse of the dome of the under-construction Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang to the Centre.

“We will be submitting a report to the Government of India since it is funded from the central scheme. The speaker (of the Lok Sabha) will also be informed about the incident,” said AL Hek, former minister and chairperson of the central scheme monitoring committee of the party, on May 25.

He further reiterated that the responsibility of the debacle should be fixed on the concerned department and contractors who are engaged with the construction of the building.

“I was told that they have even given the subcontract to the other contractors so these people have to be booked and if found guilty, have to be punished as per the law. Now, we have to first find who are involved and if they’re at fault. Only then we can demand resignations of those at the helms of the concerned authorities,” Hek said.

The BJP leader also stressed that the audit, instituted by the high-power committee, of the under-construction building by an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has to be fair. “The inquiry has to be fair and they have decided to wait for the report to be submitted by the third party before taking any action against those at fault,” he said.
