SHILLONG:
The national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha, Vanathi Srinivasan, on November 2 said that the party was encouraging women to contest the 2023 Meghalaya Assembly polls.
When asked if the party was contemplating to reserve some percentage of tickets for women Srinivasan said that compared with other parties the BJP is always giving tickets to a good number of women candidates.
“BJP recognises women power. The winnable candidates, whether a man or woman, ultimately winnability is an important factor,” she said.
The national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha said that the party is training women karyakartas on how to be a victorious candidate.
“We are guiding them on how to reach out to the people and how to carry out the various government schemes,” Srinivasan said.
The president said that these are the various strategies to develop women candidates.
Asked whether the women of the state are aware of women specific schemes initiated by the centre, she said that during her stay in Shillong she interacted with many women working as Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and Self Help Groups and women entrepreneurs and according to her she could see there is goodwill for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“They are all aware about the schemes particularly the MUDRA scheme, Jan Dhan accounts and for the past two years they are getting free ration and it has impacted the women in particular since they are the ones giving food to the family,” Srinivasan said.
