Blueprint of building for relocation of Harijan Colony families ready

On August 31, the MDA government had decided to relocate the 342 families to the existing official quarters of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) as a permanent solution to the long pending issue.

SHILLONG:

The state government will present a blueprint on the proposed multi-storey building designed for relocation of 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony from Them Iew Mawlong during the upcoming meeting with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) on September 29.

Informing this on September 27, an official source said the meeting between the Urban Affairs department and the delegation of the HPC will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

“The blueprint is ready and will be presented to the HPC during the meeting. The blueprint will specify the design of the multi-storey building for accommodating all the 342 families of the Sweepers’ Colony,” the source said.

However, the detailed project report (DPR) is yet to be finalised. “The Urban Affairs department has asked for additional land from the Revenue department in addition to the existing land of the SMB,” the source further added.

On August 31, the MDA government had decided to relocate the 342 families to the existing official quarters of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) as a permanent solution to the long pending issue.

It had also announced construction of housing flats at the 2.5 acres of SMB land.

The government has also decided to demolish the old structures for the new ones to come up.

Tynsong had then informed that the proposal was to construct 12 blocks for accommodating all the 342 families.

He had also maintained that the government will not accept beyond 342 families, the list of which was also submitted before the Meghalaya High Court.
