Blueprint on Harijan Colony relocation soon, says Tynsong

I have asked the concerned department to complete the blueprint at the earliest for examination by the state government before presenting the same to the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) in our next meeting, said the deputy Chief Minister.

SHILLONG:

The blueprint of the government’s proposal for the relocation of the 342 families of Harijan Colony will be complete soon, informed deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, recently.

Tynsong also informed that he had convened a meeting seeking the status of the blueprint on July 1 and has asked the concerning departments to complete it at the earliest.

“I have asked the concerned department to complete the blueprint at the earliest for examination by the state government before presenting the same to the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) in our next meeting,” he said.

Reiterating that the government’s blueprint will indicate the government’s stand on the matter, Tynsong said, “We will do our part. We will present the blueprint to them (HPC). If they are not willing to accept it, what can we do? We better settle the matter in court. Therefore, it is up to them.”

Earlier on April 25, the HPC had agreed to be relocated from the Them Iew Mawlong on conditions that the state government provide 200 square meters of land to each of the 342 families within the European Ward besides bearing the cost of construction of their homes.

However, there has been stiff opposition from several pressure groups against the HPC’s demands even as they warned that “all hell will break loose” if the state government succumbs to such unacceptable demands.
