BSF troops from 100 Battalion deployed in West Garo Hills border arrested a man who was trying to sell Yaba tablets, a narcotic drug, in Purakhasia area on Tuesday.
Vigilant troops of 100 Bn BSF under Meghalaya Frontier posted at Purakhasia BOP, apprehended the smuggler with 210 Yaba tablets near Purakhasia market in collaboration with Meghalaya Police. The smuggler was identified as Urup Miah of Kakripara village under Mankachar police station in South Salmara district of Assam, a BSF statement mentioned.
According to BSF officials, normally the Yaba tablets are smuggled in from Mankachar and Goalpara region of Assam and the peddler arrested on Monday was probably trying to find a link to smuggle a larger consignment to Bangladesh through the Garo Hills border.
