BSF seize 57 cattle in East Jaintia Hills

The cattle were laden in four trucks en route to Umkiang from Khliehriat when the vehicles were intercepted by the BSF personnel of the 97 Battalions

SHILLONG:

In a major breakthrough, the Border Security Force (BSF) troops, on April 23, seized 57 cattle from the international border village of Sonapur under PS-Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills district which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

The cattle were laden in four trucks en route to Umkiang from Khliehriat when the vehicles were intercepted by the BSF personnel of the 97 Battalions, a statement issued by the border organisation read.

The seized cattle were handed over to the concerned police outpost -Lumshnong for further disposal.

The BSF has identified vulnerable routes used frequently by cattle smugglers and laid mobile check posts on them. The border organisation is maintaining a high degree of alertness on the international border to maintain national security as well as to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities.
