Bull fight festival organised in WJH

The festival is part of the preservation of the Pnar community of Meghalaya. It was organised after the sowing season.

Raliang Elaka Arts & Cultural Organisation, West Jaintia Hills District organised the annual bull fight festival at Pamsna Laskein ground under Elaka Raliang Development Block on Saturday.

The festival is part of the preservation of the Pnar community of Meghalaya. It was organised after the sowing season. It began with the performance of rites and rituals performed by the Doloi and Pator envoking God the Creator to bless the community so that all the seeds they have planted can produce good yield.

District Transport Officer, Shillong, D. Lamin who was the chief guest said the bull fight festival is part of the culture of the people of Raliang Elaka and unlike other bull fights is is devoid of betting.

Lamin also urged the residents of Raliang Elaka to take part in the annual festival. This year’s festival also include various sports activities like tug of war, musical chair, flat race, express lucky draw, traditional dances among others.

Awards were also given to students who secured the highest marks in SSLC and HSSLC examination in  Arts, Science and Commerce subjects.

Doloi of Raliang Elaka, Chawas Lyngdoh, Pator Rancha Lyngdoh, organising secretary, village headmen of various areas of Raliang Elaka, government officials and others were also present in the festival.
