By-polls in Tripura tomorrow; 1,89,032 voters to exercise franchise

Of 221 polling stations, 148 polling stations have been categorised as normal, 59 as vulnerable, and 10 as critically vulnerable, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kiran Gitte.

Tomorrow will be a big day for 22 candidates, who will be in fray to win the bye-polls in four constituencies of the state as 1,89,032 electorates, comprising 95,389 females and 93,638 males, will exercise their franchise and decide their fate.

The four constituencies have 221 polling booths of which 111 polling stations are located in urban areas, 110 have been set up in rural areas.

“Of 221 polling stations, 148 polling stations have been categorised as normal, 59 as vulnerable, and 10 as critically vulnerable,” said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kiran Gitte, adding that 25 companies of the Central Armed Paramilitary Police Force (CAPF) are in place to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

The CEO further said that the CAPF are keeping vigil since June 9, while the Tripura State Rifles jawans are being used for area domination purposes.

“We are ensuring that there would be no deterioration of law and order and taking measures to build confidence among the electorates,” Gitte said.

Gitte further said, “Proper electricity and internet connections have been ensured in all polling stations. Not only this, ramps were placed for specially-abled electorates, drinking water facilities and waiting areas for at least 150 voters are also been organised as it is the rainy season.”

The CEO office has also received around 16 complaints from political parties on Model Code of Conduct being broken, and initiated necessary action.

Meanwhile, all the officials involved in election duty have left for their respective polling stations.
