AGARTALA:
The Election Commission of India (ECI), on May 25, announced that the bye-polls to four assembly seats in Tripura will be held on June 23.
In a notification, the ECI said that results of the 8 Town Bordowali, 6 Agartala, 46 Surma, and 57 Jubaraj Nagar seats will be declared on June 26.
The notification from the ECI further stated that the gazette notification for the bye-poll would be out on May 30, the last date of filing nominations is June 6 and the dates for scrutiny and withdrawal of candidates are June 7 and June 9, respectively.
Notably, the four seats had fallen vacant after former MLA Sudip Roy Barman of 6 Agartala, Asish Kumar Saha of 8 Town Bordowali left BJP and joined Congress, while former MLA Asish Das of 46 Surma constituency was expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after he joined the All India Trinamool Congress.
On the other hand, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) MLA of 47 Jubaraj Nagar, Ramendra Chandra Debnath had passed away leaving the seat vacant.
