The association’s president Wandonbok Jyrwa said they met Syiem to follow up on the case after the family members of the two asked them about its status.

SHILLONG:

Taxi drivers under the aegis of the East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) on Wednesday met Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem to enquire about the status of investigation into the assault of two of their members on May 18.

The association’s president Wandonbok Jyrwa said they met Syiem to follow up on the case after the family members of the two asked them about its status.

“We don’t want the case to come to a dead end and there should not be any criticism that the arrests were mere eyewash,” Jyrwa told reporters after the meeting.

Patting the Police department, the association president said it had done its job and the investigation into the case is on.

Jyrwa said that during the meeting with the SP (City), they were informed that the persons who had assaulted the cabbies were still in custody.

He informed that the accused have been booked under four sections of the IPC – 307, 324, 326 and 34.

On the night of the incident, the FIR was filed by EKHLTWA at the Sadar police station.

The EKHLTWA president also informed that the two taxi drivers were yet to be called by the police to identify the culprits since they just got discharged from the hospital.

The victims have been identified as Bashai Syiem (25) from Mawpdang and Iohborlang Kharsohnoh (27) from Jongksha.

On May 19, the police apprehended the five accused, who had fled to Guwahati.
