Cabinet passes ordinance for setting up state university

“The cabinet has approved the ordinance where the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University will be changed to Captain Williamson Sangma State University,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after the meeting.

SHILLONG:

The Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that the Cabinet has approved an ordinance where the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University will be renamed to Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
He told reporters, “This has been done because the state does not have a state University. The Cabinet decided to expand the scope of the Technical University into a state university and allow our Colleges within our state the option to affiliate to state University rather than to NEHU.”
He added, “Once that happens other provisions at the national level such as CUET examination will not be applicable anymore once these Colleges are affiliated to Captain Williamson Sangma State University.”
Presently, the state’s colleges have been affiliated to North Eastern Hills University (NEHU).
Sangma added that necessary amendments were made to insert different subjects which has also received the Cabinet’s approval.
It may be mentioned that the state government has often been criticised for not having a state university.
