To mark the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Golden Jubilee of the Meghalaya Statehood, the district administration of Ri Bhoi organised North East Festival 2022, at Lum Nongrim Playground, Byrnihat, on May 3.
Attended by chief minister Conrad Sangma, the event also saw the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of multi facility centre for SHG by him. The chief minister also inaugurated a revamped road which was in a really poor condition.
Community funds and cheques were also awarded by the chief minster to the village organisations and producer groups under the FOCUS programme.
Jirang legislator Sostheness Sohtun inaugurated the event and Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi and other dignitaries, members of self-help groups (SHGs), and representatives of various departments also attended the do.
The event was organised in collaboration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
Earlier, on May 2, SHG Mela cum Financial Literacy Camp was organised in Tirot Sing Memorial Secondary School, Mawkdok under Khatarshnong–Laitkroh C&RD Block to provide a platform for the SHGs in promoting and showcasing their unique products.
