New Delhi, Feb 26: A significant step towards combating anaemia among adolescent girls was taken today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Witnessed by Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Smriti Irani, the agreement aims to implement Ayurvedic interventions in selected districts, including Dhubri in Assam, under the “Mission Utkarsh.”
This joint public health initiative targets poor-performing districts with high anaemia prevalence rates, such as Bastar in Chattisgarh, West Singbhuma in Jharkhand, Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, and Dhaulpur in Rajasthan. With approximately 94,000 anaemic girls expected to benefit from this collaborative effort, the project aims to improve nutritional outcomes and empower women and children with health and nutrition resources.
Speaking at the ceremony, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing anaemia through evidence-based Ayurvedic interventions, promoting wellness through Yoga protocols, diet diversity, and anaemia prevention. He highlighted Ayush’s role in providing holistic healthcare solutions in collaboration with modern medicine.
The event was attended by key officials from both ministries, including Secretary Indevar Pandey from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha from the Ministry of Ayush, and other dignitaries, signaling a concerted effort towards achieving better health outcomes for the nation.
