Centre to soon implement subsidy on fertilisers: Mawrie

When asked, the BJP president said that organic farming is there but Meghalaya is yet to be identified as an organic farming state.

SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ernest Mawrie, on January 19, said the Centre will soon implement a subsidy on fertilisers.

“In the last part of November, the government has already called all the factories who are producing to inform them that they will again start the subsidy on fertilizers and this will benefit farmers,” Mawrie told reporters.

When asked, the BJP president said that organic farming is there but Meghalaya is yet to be identified as an organic farming state.

“So since the demand from the farmers is not only from our state but from the entire country, the PM has taken initiative to call the cabinet and take a resolution that they will again implement the subsidy on fertiliser,” he said.

Mawrie however said he is very upset with the state government for upholding thousands of applications. “Several times we have requested them to approve the names of the farmers as money is coming from the Centre. We are facing that problem and we have already discussed it with the Agriculture Minister…,” he added.
