Shillong:
The inaugural launch of the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place at the IG Stadium, New Delhi on June 19 2022 by the Prime Minister of India, and will reach and halt at Shillong on July 9, 2022.
The official handling over of the Torch by Mitrba Guha, Grand Master to the Chief Guest will take place at the Indoor Stadium SAI, STC, NEHU Campus, Mawkynroh, Shillong on July 10 at 8:00 am.
The 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad has been awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to the All India Chess Federation and will be held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from July 28 to August 9, 2022.
In this edition, FIDE has instituted the 1st ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay to mark the event being held in India, the land where chess originated.
The Torch will travel across the country covering 75 iconic locations of the country as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration.
