CM urges NEUFC to hold pre-season screening in Tura

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma toldĀ  gathering in Tura on Monday that he has suggested to North East United Football Academy, owned by Bollywood Star John Abraham, to hold a screening programme to tap potential talent in soccer from the youth of Garo Hills.

The government has given a green signal to the NEUFC, which runs the academy, to set up base in Shillong.

ā€œI have requested the academy to organise the Pre Season training camp in Tura and train the youth of the region,ā€ said Sangma.

Announcing the induction of young soccer enthusiast from Tura, Chusrang Sangma, whoĀ  has been selected for training by the NEUFA, the chief minister termed his selection as testimony of the talent and potential of the youth of the region.

Chusrang was met by top officials of the football academy in the presence of the chief minister at the latterā€™s residence on Monday morning along with NorthEast United FC co-owner Jaya Balan.

The coming up of a world class P A Sangma Stadium for football would add to the sporting scenario of Garo Hilla, believes Conrad Sangma.

The chief minister also informed that a Rs 15 crore track and field stadium has been sanctioned.
