Chyne to propose internal probe into non-submission of accounts

SHILLONG:

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titosstarwell Chyne, on Monday informed that he will propose an internal inquiry into non- submission of accounts by the three autonomous district councils to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.

“We will be having the Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday. I will propose the setting up of an internal inquiry into the matter,” Chyne told reporters.

The CEM informed that the inquiry will minutely try to study the accounts of the KHADC so that there are no mistakes while auditing.

“We want all the processes to be clean and transparent,” Chyne said.

He also informed that the KHADC had replied to the CAG on April 22 soon after receiving a letter on the matter.

The CEM also said that the last audit report received from the CAG was in the year 2012.

“We have placed this in the house, during the recent budget session,” he said.

The CEM also said that from the year 2013 auditing is being done but for certain accounts the district councils could not provide information because of non-submission of utilisaton certificates.

Chyne also said that for the year 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 the council could not submit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“However, to say that there is misutilisation of funds would be wrong,” he said.

He also informed that the Executive Committee will try to complete some of the projects initiated by it by the end of this financial year (2022-23).

One of these is the Traditional Medicine Centre at Lum Sohpetbneng. “This is clear we will inaugurate this within this year,” Chyne said. The CEM also informed that the Maraikaphon Tourist Spot in Sohra, the market at Riangdo will be completed this financial year.

He also informed that the construction of the Traditional Cultural Centre at Jingkieng Kalong in Ri Bhoi district has stopped due to litigation. “We have not got any order yet to resume the work,” the CEM said.
