CM reacts to demands for Winter Capital & retrospective implementation of roster

“I have maintained that every demand that comes in these aspects is related to economic development. People feel that it is one of the ways in which development is expected to come if such demands are fulfilled. So, what we are doing now is ensuring that development is spread across the state,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on July 13, said that the long-pending demand for a Winter Capital in Tura is related to economic development, adding that the state government will ensure that development is not cities-oriented but spread across the entire state.

“I have maintained that every demand that comes in these aspects is related to economic development. People feel that it is one of the ways in which development is expected to come if such demands are fulfilled. So, what we are doing now is ensuring that development is spread across the state,” Sangma said.

He further informed that for the first time, mini secretariats will be set up in different regions of the state like Tura, Jowai, Pynursla, and others.

These mini secretariats will act as a unified and integrated administrative complex where different departments will function from there.

“These big infra are coming up, with the setting up of these mini secretariats. This is a process and it takes time; you will see a lot of economic activities taking place in different regions of the state,” the chief minister asserted.

Meanwhile, Sangma reiterated that the roster will be implemented prospectively, adding that consultations were held with different stakeholders before restarting the recruitment process.

Recently, Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) organised a hunger strike to pressurise the state government to implement the Reservation Roster with a cutoff date retrospectively.

“We have consulted everybody and many social organisations were present where we explained the implementation of the roster. Now we should do is to ensure that the roster is implemented in letter and spirit in the coming days, months, and years. That is what we are looking at,” said the chief minister.
