CM responds to BJP’s allegations, calls it ‘sad’

Earlier, the BJP had accused the National People's Party (NPP)-led government of taking out a loan of Rs 1,500 crores to fund a programme for farmers to be distributed in advance of the state's upcoming assembly elections.

SHILLONG:

Retaliating BJP’s recent attack over Rs. 1,500 crores fund, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma criticised that whoever made the comment that Rs. 1 500 crores was borrowed by the state government to provide loans to farmers, has not understood how government functions and how finances are managed.

Earlier, the BJP had accused the National People’s Party (NPP)-led government of taking out a loan of Rs 1,500 crores to fund a programme for farmers to be distributed in advance of the state’s upcoming assembly elections.

“The entire fund allocated for the FOCUS and FOCUS+ is coming up with Rs 400 crores and not touching Rs 1,500 crores and that too covering 4.5 lakh families,” he said.

He added that the government has different sources from the state, budget provisions for loans, central taxes, externally aided projects and different sources.

“It is sad to say that helping the people and the farmers is being looked at as an election agenda. It is very sad,” Sangma said.

He said that the government is helping the poor which should have been done a long time back.
