Cong constitutes screening committees ahead of Assembly polls

The committees will scrutinise the candidates and send a panel of names to the party leadership, and the Central Election Committee will give final nod to the candidates.

SHILLONG:

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on December 28 constituted screening committees for the ensuing Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura.

In a press release issued by AICC, Gaurav Gogoi, MP has been appointed as chairman of the screening committee for Meghalaya while Hibi Eden, MP and Neeraj Dangi, MP as its members and AICC in-charge, Manish Chatrath and MPCC president, Vincent H Pala as ex-officio members.

For Nagaland, Mohan Prakash has been appointed as chairman, Sanjay Dutt and Sankar Malakar as members and Dr Ajoy Kumar, AICC in-charge, K Therie, PCC president and Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC secretary I/c as ex-officio members.

Meanwhile, Deepa Dasmunsi has been appointed as chairman of the screening committee for Tripura, Kamleshwar Patel, MLA and SA Sampath Kumar as members and Dr Ajoy Kumar, AICC Incharge, Brajit Sinha, PCC president, Sudip Roy Barman, MLA and Szarita Laitphlang, AICC secretary i/c as ex-officio members.

The committees will scrutinise the candidates and send a panel of names to the party leadership, and the Central Election Committee will give final nod to the candidates.
