Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is in the process of formulating its manifesto for the 2023 polls and one of the party’s top priorities will be development in the education and tourism sector.
“Education and tourism go side by side. If youths are educated, they can get jobs in tourism,” said MPCC chief Vincent Pala, adding that the party has formed a manifesto committee with Dr Celestine Lyngdoh as its chairman.
Pala also stressed that the health remains as one of the priority sectors for the Congress along with judicious use of natural minerals. “We have coal, we have limestone and other minerals and we should use them properly,” he said.
The issues of farmers are something which, the party [is planning to address through its manifesto. “The farmers of the state are facing difficulties; manures are expensive, they have no access to markets as well. What the farmers produce they sell and consume at the same time. We have discussed with the various (farmers) unions to give us proposals because when we make policies it should not be what we want but what the stakeholders need,” said the Shillong MP.
Meanwhile, the MPCC chief also said that the party is planning to field candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies and added that the Congress will not forge any alliance with other parties.
“In politics, there is a cycle; people come and go from one party to another,” he said.
Pala also said that in the coming elections, voters will look for a party which has ethics “Our people have seen the current government and how it is busy making laws to legalise gambling and collect money from the highways. They know it all,” the MPCC chief said.
