Congress puts “GADDAR” tag on Himanta Biswa Sarma, says shock awaits defector

Guwahati, March 06: After being at the receiving end of verbal taunts of the Assam chief minister for months, the opposition Congress has returned the favour terming their former colleague as “Gaddar” or Betrayer who even the BJP will come to learn “never to trust”.

In a press conference at Congress office Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Wedneday, Chairperson of Media and Publicity department of the Congress Party, Pawan Khera took pot shots against his party’s bete noire and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma calling him “Gaddar” and someone who is still trying to keep in touch with the Congress in the eventuality of a regime change at the centre.

“We accept him as ‘Gaddar’. The person who could not be ours, how will he be theirs (BJP)?” Questioned Pawan Khera.

Taunting Sarma over his “Mama” or uncle tag, Khera remarked, “He calls himself ‘Mama’ of Assam. There was one another ‘Mama’ from Madhya Pradesh, Sivraj Chauhan. What has happened to him? It will be the same for Himanta Biswa Sarma. For this sort of ‘Gaddar’, it’s not good to say much. But the person who betrayed the Congress, how can we expect him not to betray Narendra Modi.”

The Congress leader warned that land grabbing has become a common feature in Assam under Sarma’s regime.

“Owners of hotels, resorts and prime land in Guwahati are worried and fearful that the eyes of the chief minister’s family do not fall on their property. This is the condition in Assam,” claimed Pawan Khera.

Claiming that all is not well within the saffron party, Khera claimed a major jolt awaits the BJP.

“Many BJP leaders angry with the announcement of candidates are in touch with us and very shortly they will get a shock,” warns the Congress leader.

“Himanta Biswa Sharma is trying to keep contact with Congress because he is worried that if BJP loses, where will he go. But don’t worry. We won’t take him back. Himanta Biswa Sarma has learned a new habit after joining the BJP. How much lies the Prime Minister speaks, Himanta tries to outdo him with more lies,” said Khera.

Earlier, on Monday, while interacting with presspersons in Guwahati, All India United Democratic Front chief, Badruddin Ajmal alleged that his party had been keen to join hands with the Congress to take on the BJP but internal politics among congress leaders ended the possibility of a united front.
“We wanted to contest with Congress but the Congress leaders are sold to Himanta Biswa Sarma. For this reason they don’t come together and they will face the consequences.”

Meanwhile, on the BJP front, it was a different story altogether.

Witnessing the joining of Rana Goswami, Former working President of Congress to the BJP, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that, “After 400 seats win for the BJP in the coming elections, the Congress will be relegated to a position of state regional party. The national status or national aura of congress will demise.”
