SHILLONG:
Congress legislator from Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh was appointed as Leader of the Opposition (LO) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on June 8.
This was communicated by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat press release which read, “Shri Ronnie V Lyngdoh, a member of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has been recognised by the Speaker as the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with effect from June 8, 2023.”
It may be mentioned that after the formation of the MDA 2.0 government, there was no leader of the opposition in the Assembly, as none of the parties in the opposition had the requisite number of MLAs to claim the spot.
Meanwhile, another Congress leader Saleng Sangma was appointed as the Opposition Chief Whip on the same day.
