Covid cases high among 21-30 age group in Tripura; health dept issues advisory

A fine of Rs 200 would be levied on people found without masks and repeated offenders will be fined Rs 400 for failing to comply with the order.

The Tripura state-level task force on Covid-19 held a meeting on the current situation of the infection in the state at the secretariat on July 21, and observed that the positivity rate is high among the 21-30 age groups currently, accounting for 27.4 per cent of cases in the state.

“Chief Secretary JK Sinha presided over the meeting. The current overall situation of Covid in the state was discussed at the meeting of the state-level task force. The task force has accordingly directed the public to wear face masks at all times and follow all Covid appropriate behaviours,” Health Secretary Dr. Debashis Basu told the press.

He further informed that a fine of Rs 200 would be levied on people found without masks and repeated offenders will be fined Rs 400 for failing to comply with the order.

“We have experienced the third wave from December 2021 to February 2022. After that the number of Covid cases were less. But now the cases have started increasing and we have observed the positivity rate among the 21-30 age group is high, accounting to about 27.4 percent,” he said.

He further said that the state government has 1.17 lakh doses of vaccine, while the state requires 15 lakh doses of the vaccine, and which has been informed to the centre.

“Special vaccination camps have already started in schools, colleges and local clubs. We have a stock of 1.20 lakh three layer masks and more 50 thousand will be procured for distribution among the daily labourers, rickshaw pullers and poor people,” he informed.

The government has also issued an advisory urging people to avoid unnecessary movement outside home or workplace.

“Fair, Exhibition, Rallies, public meetings etc. may be avoided. Shop owners should ensure social distancing among customers, wearing masks among customers. Bazaar committees should deploy volunteers to ensure social distancing. Wearing masks/face cover is compulsory in public places, crowded areas, in markets, all workplaces and offices,” the notification read.
