CPI-M calls for unity among secular, democratic forces to oust BJP

Leader of opposition, Manik Sarkar, urged all the anti-BJP political parties to unite together and oust this saffron party from power to save Tripura and its people.

AGARTALA:

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly poll, the opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) on October 21 called for unity among the secular and democratic forces to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Tripura to save the people of the state.

In a bid to show strength, the CPI-M organized a massive rally at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala city as per their pre-scheduled programme.

Addressing the gathering, former chief minister Manik Sarkar, who is also leader of opposition, said that people fought for their own purpose to bring BJP to power. But it has been 55 months since the BJP formed the government, and it has destroyed everything and shifted the state to the edge of the crematorium.

“After the BJP formed the government, each and every rule of the constitution was killed. In Tripura people have no right to talk, no right to protest, no freedom of press. The ruling party and government has adopted a rule of fascism, tyranny, dictatorial and monogamous terror throughout the state. We have to unite to save Tripura from this,” said Sarkar.

He also urged all the anti-BJP political parties to unite together and oust this saffron party from power to save the state and its people.

Speaking at the public-meeting, secretary general of the CPI-M, Sitaram Yechury, squarely lambasted the role of BJP-led government at the centre and state as well.

“These saffron party-led governments are ruining the lives of common masses by escalating the prices of essential commodities. If all secular and democratic forces come together then it will be easy to oust the BJP,” he said.

Meanwhile, CPI-M state committee secretary Jitendra Choudhury said that since last two days the BJP backed goons have been intimidating CPI-M workers, supporters not to attend the CPI-M rally.
