Dasakhiat Lamare to contest from Nongkrem

SHILLONG:

Cabinet minister and NPP legislator from Mawhati, Dasakhiat Lamare, has decided to contest from Nongkrem constituency in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.

Confirming this on Monday, his uncle and also cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “Yes, he (Lamare) will contest from Nongkrem constituency.”

The National People’s Party (NPP) leader also cited that the reason behind the decision was to win more seats in 2023.

When asked if the decision was to pave the way for his elder brother Ngaitlang Dhar, also a former Umroi legislator, to contest in the upcoming elections, Sniawbhalang, however, said they are yet to decide on the candidate for the Mawhati constituency.

“We have not decided yet who we will field as our candidate for Mawhati. There are so many good candidates and we are still confused as to whom we should field. That is why we are taking time to decide,” he added.

Stating that Mawhati constituency has seen much development, the NPP leader said, “We are hopeful that whoever is contesting from the NPP ticket will retain the seat with our support.”

On speculations that he may contest from Jowai constituency, Sniawbhalang, however, categorically denied and said, “I will remain in my own constituency (Nartiang) while Wailadmiki Shylla (his brother-in-law) will remain in Jowai constituency.”

He said there was no question of shifting as his objective is to ensure the NPP gets more seats in the 2023 Assembly polls.
