Delayed school construction sparks concerns in Ri Bhoi District

Of particular concern is the state of the Mawtari Myrdon school, which currently stands abandoned and half-finished, engulfed by overgrown vegetation.

NONGPOH:

Inspecting a long-overdue Residential School building in Mawtari Myrdon Village, Ri Bhoi District, members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Ri Bhoi District expressed grave concerns on August 21. Their apprehensions revolve around the government’s staggering decade-long delay in completing the construction of the school, prompting a strong plea for expediting the project in the interest of the general public.

The organisation possesses information indicating the presence of approximately 19 similar structures throughout the state. Within Ri Bhoi, three such structures were identified: one situated in Mawtari Myrdon under the Umsning Block, another in Nongrim Synjai under the Umling Block, and a third within the Jirang Block. The organisation has mapped out plans to undertake assessments of these educational facilities to gather further insights into their current statuses.

Of particular concern is the state of the Mawtari Myrdon school, which currently stands abandoned and half-finished, engulfed by overgrown vegetation. Prominent leaders of HYC in Ri Bhoi, including President Hercules Suting and Secretary Shemphang Marsharing, have posed questions regarding the governmental delay that has hindered the project’s completion since the years 2012-2013, a period that coincided with the tenure of Mukul Sangma as the Chief Minister under the MUA2 government.

The organisation stressed the fact that the incomplete status of the school has led to missed opportunities for the youth who are actively seeking employment. The resolution of this situation through the completion of the school construction would, in turn, generate a plethora of teaching positions.

In response to this disconcerting delay, members of HYC have collectively resolved to engage with higher authorities. The primary objective of this engagement is to ensure the timely admission of children into the school once it is operational.
