The world’s most boring person has been identified by a team of researchers led by Dr Van Tilburg of the Department of Psychology, University of Essex.
To determine the secrets behind the science of boredom, these researchers conducted a study and evaluated the lifestyles of 500 individuals to find what could be perceived as boring by others and the impact that this perception can have on their lives. If you’re concerned about the identity of this person, fear not, it’s not you.
In fact, these researchers created a profile based on the data they had gathered and identified the attributes that most people believe to be boring.
So, what kind of attributes does the world’s most boring person have?
According to the study, it is someone who works as a data entry worker, is religious, lives in a town, and whose favourite hobby is watching TV.
Aside from this, the study indicated that the “most boring” list also comprises of individuals working as data analysts, accountants, tax or insurance workers as well as people engaged in cleaning or banking, while people who work in the performing arts, sciences, journalists (phew!), health professionals or teaching are thought of as interesting.
This study also lists out the most boring hobbies one can have and they include sleeping, religion, watching TV, observing animals, and mathematics.
It may also be noted that this study stresses on the idea that we, as individuals, should strive to not conceive perceptions about anyone, and that people who are generally perceived as boring are likely to face social stigma and ostracization, thereby causing harm to their mental health.
Tilburg added that people should refrain from stereotyping people engaged in these jobs that are perceived to be “boring” because these jobs are important and help society function.
