SHILLONG:

The probe into the dome collapse of the under-construction assembly building carried out by IIT Guwahati, has submitted its report to the High Power Committee (HPC).

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed as per the findings of IIT Guwahati, the overall load of the dome was too heavy for it to sustain.

The IIT Guwahati probe revealed that there was lack of coordination between the different agencies executing the work.

The chief minister said there was lack of coordination between the different agencies that include the designers, contractors and project management consultant (PMC) because had it been done properly, the entire situation could have been avoided.

Sangma also said that as per the IIT Guwahati report, a structural safety approval has been given to the rest of the building.

“All the structural strengths and the foundation strengths were found to be as per standards,” he said.

The chief minister said that the HPC has directed the government to call the different stakeholders, the designers, the contractors and ask for explanations based on the report.

Sangma said the explanations given by them will decide on further processes to be followed which will be decided in the next HPC meeting which will be held in the next week or so.

IIT Guwahati has specifically mentioned that if the HPC wants to go ahead and build a dome it should be a lighter weight structure covered with CGI sheet.

The chief minister said that this will be decided by the HPC.
