NONGPOH:
Project Director of National Highway Authority of India in Shillong Anand Singh Chauhan has said the construction of the Dwarksuid Bridge under the Shillong Bypass Road will be completed within 40 to 45 days. Chauhan added that the bridge should be operable by the end of May 2023.
Dwarksuid Bridge is a major point of connection within Meghalaya and between the state and other parts of the North East. However, a major crack and the subsequent collapse of the sidewall of the bridge had made it a safety hazard.
To address this issue, the government had constructed a substitute bailey bridge for heavy vehicles, but it proved to be inadequate within a short period of time. Therefore, the government decided to continue the construction of the Dwarksuid Bridge to ensure the safety of commuters and enhance the local economy.
