Edu cell of KSU wants CSIR-NET examination centre shifted to Shillong

In the past, the centre for the examination used to be in Shillong or Guwahati (Assam), which was easy for the students to commute to.

SHILLONG:

The education cell of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central executive council, on September 12, wrote to the senior director of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to shift the examination centre for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Eligibility Test (CSIR-NET) to Shillong.

The letter to senior director of NAT, Dr S Parashar, was written on behalf of students appearing for CSIR-NET 2022, who are facing problems with commuting outside of the state of Meghalaya to attempt the examination.

In the past, the centre for the examination used to be in Shillong or Guwahati (Assam), which was easy for the students to commute to. However, this year, with the examination centre shifted to another state, students are facing a lot of problems.

“The union has contacted the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Students’ Union and the staff of National Testing Agency, and from their side they are willing to shift the examination center to Shillong provided there is space for a centre,” the letter stated.

“The copy of the letter has also been shared with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Education Minister of the State through email for necessary action towards the welfare of the youth of our state,” the union wrote.

Apart from that, the KSU also informed the education department of the state through Ambrose Ch. Marak, and are hoping that their request will be taken into consideration.

The union also said that it is sad to see how students have to travel out of the state to appear for examinations despite it earning the title of ‘education hub of the North East’.
