Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma further informed that the government is planning to have number of colleges and universities, and whatever educational institutions are there in the state now, their infrastructure have to be improved so that they serve the purpose.

SHILLONG:

Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has said that Education is not something which can be taken as business, and it is a sector to serve the people, and if anybody tries to take it as a business, the government will not allow it.

“Education is a sector to serve the people – we are making people ready for the future, shaping students for the future, nobody should think about making money from this sector – it is service sector,” Sangma told media persons on April 13.

Sangma, while deliberating at length on education serving its purpose, said that the government will now allow any kinds of scams in the sector.

Replying to the question that the state lacks good universities and colleges, and how is the government looking into these things, Sangma said that the whole idea is to improve the standard of education system in the state, and the state has the potential to be one of the best in the education sector.

“We want to see that our students get the best educational facilities, as tomorrow they will be serving in the different states of the country. This is what we are working towards. We are trying our best to bring up the standard of education at all levels from teachers to infrastructure, from curriculum to environment,” Sangma said.

Sangma further informed that the government is planning to have number of colleges and universities, and whatever educational institutions are there in the state now, their infrastructure have to be improved so that they serve the purpose.
