SHILLONG:
State vice-president of the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Meghalaya George Lyngdoh has said that sympathy wave is not the only factor to determine an election result, even as he maintained that basing an election only on sympathy is not correct.
Lyngdoh was reacting to a question on whether sympathy wave would be in favour of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the May 10 assembly polls in Sohiong.
“There are some people who will advocate a sympathy vote, while there are some others who might not agree with it – there is a mixed feeling,” Lyngdoh said.
When asked about the party’s preparation for the Sohiong polls, the TMC leader said that since the party is new, it needs time to organise itself, however, they look forward to the support of the people in Sohiong for the upcoming polls to be held on May 10.
“It is a fight and I wish the candidate the best and I also appeal to the people to give the AITC a chance to strengthen the party,” he said.
