GUWAHATI:
Two people – a father and his son – were arrested for selling beef illegally in Dwarandha area of Six Mile in Guwahati on February 7.
The arrested have been identified as Abdul Salam and Mohidul Islam, and 13 kgs of prepared beef was seized from them.
A case No 251/2022 was registered in Dispur Police Station under section 13(1) of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021 in this connection.
They have been selling beef in the area for a long time violating the provision of the law.
They were produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Kamrup metro, who remanded them to 14 days judicial custody.
Under the Act, cattle slaughter and sale of beef are banned in areas where Hindus, Jains and Sikhs are in a majority or within a 5-km radius of a temple.
