AIZAWL:
The body of ten-year-old Malsawmkima, who drowned in Tlawng river near Aizawl along with his father on August 2, was recovered on August 17, eight days after the community search for their bodies was called off.
Local people resumed the search for the boy’s father on Wednesday after a body was spotted floating in the river.
Malsawmkima’s body was discovered by a shopkeeper near Buichali and was immediately recovered by Sairang Young Mizo Association and returned home after autopsy at Sairang Police Station.
The search for Pu Lalfakzuala and his son, whose car was involved in an accident and fell into the Tlawng River on the evening of August 2, was undertaken by members of YMA in Aizawl city for seven days as per Mizo tradition. Hundreds of YMA volunteers searched the river for them, but their bodies were not discovered even on the seventh day and the major search operation was called off.
Despite the fact that the major search operation had been called off and their bodies had been declared unrecoverable as per traditional norm, friends, families, and volunteers continued to search for their bodies for another ten days.
