FIR against AR by Manipur Police reflects mistrust between state & centre: Cong

As per the FIR, Manipur Police alleges Assam Rifles personnel of blocking the road to Kwakta, not allowing the local police to make their way there.

GUWAHATI:

Days after Manipur Police filed an FIR against personnel of the 9th battalion of the Assam Rifles for allegedly obstructing a public servant carrying out their duty and disobeying the law, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, on August 9, said the accompanying shrill rhetoric from the Manipur chief minister makes it clear that there’s growing mistrust between the BJP government in the State and the BJP government in the Centre.

He tweeted, “Is this not a breakdown of Constitutional machinery? Is this the double-engine governance that Manipur voted for? When will the Prime Minister act?”

As per the FIR, Manipur Police alleges Assam Rifles personnel of blocking the road to Kwakta, not allowing the local police to make their way there.

Terming it an “arrogant act”, the state police said this had provided Kuki militants a chance to a safe zone for them.

The FIR was filed in the aftermath of the violence in Kwakta, Bishnupur, where three Meitei residents were killed on August 6. Two Kuki men were killed in retaliatory firing later in the day.

Similarly, Congress MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi tweeted, “Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh is making serious charges against the Assam Rifles which is directly under Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The failure to control Manipur is being increasingly put on the shoulders of the Home Ministry. Will PM Modi act or put party over the nation?”
