GUWAHATI:
Five people lost their lives and two were critically injured when a speeding truck rammed into them at Sipajhar in Assam’s Darrang district, on May 24.
As per police reports, the incident took place on National Highway-15 when the deceased and injured persons were out for a morning walk. The driver of the speeding truck lost control and the vehicle rammed into several pedestrians, who were on the side of the road.
In the accident, two people, identified as Jintu Haque (16) and Indadul Haque (17), were killed on the spot, and seven others were injured.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, but three of them succumbed to their injuries as they were being treated. The deceased have been identified as Rekib Ali (15), Joymoti Baruah (70), and Sangita Devi Sharma (46).
The police also said that an investigation into the incident has been initiated and the remains of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.
