Five NLFT cadres surrender before Assam Rifles in Tripura

The cadres were identified as Khajendra Reang, Swapan Tripura, Jalaksa Tripura, Jubaranjan Tripura and Ram Badal Tripura.

AGARTALA:

Five cadres of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) surrendered before the Assam Rifles personnel in the Dhalai district of Tripura, on February 11.

According to a statement issued by the Assam Rifles (AR), Agartala Battalion of AR, under the aegis of Headquarters 21 Sector Assam Rifles and Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) along with Assam Rifles Field Intelligence Team persuaded five NLFT (PD) cadres under Anand Bazaar Police Station Dhalai District to surrender.

“Based on the input received from Field Intelligence Team and Wireless Experimental Unit regarding the presence of five NLFT (Parimal Debbarma) cadres, a joint operation was launched by Agartala Battalion along with Field Intelligence Team on Friday, leading to surrender of five cadres”, the press statement reads.

The cadres were identified as Khajendra Reang, Swapan Tripura, Jalaksa Tripura, Jubaranjan Tripura and Ram Badal Tripura.

“During preliminary interrogation, the cadres revealed that they had joined NLFT (PD) in a Bangladesh camp. The cadres, from their field experience learned that their cause for an independent Tripura has lost its relevance. On the other hand, presently NLFT (PD) group is facing serious financial and organisational crisis. Feeling frustrated with the present predicament, coupled with continuous pressure of the security forces, they decided to come to the mainstream,” read the statement of Assam Rifles.
