The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) September 4 condemned the Cabinet minister and BJP legislator from Pynthorumkhrah, AL Hek, for allegedly endorsing the Refugee Rehabilitation Welfare Society (RRWS) as the sole authority for granting no objection certificates (NOCs) and residential certificates (RCs) in the area.
This came after Hek had recently stated that he got his residential certificate from the RRWS.
“This statement by the MLA clearly undermines the legitimacy of the Dorbar shong of Rynjah as well as that of the KHADC,” FKJGP Nongthymmai Circle information secretary Banrilang Kharpyngrope said in a statement.
“The FKJGP feels that the MLA should refrain from making such callous, irresponsible and meaningless statements which in turn devalue the role of our traditional bodies,” he said.
Kharpyngrope also recalled that in 2012 when the federation got hold of a certificate issued by the leaders of the RRWS and it was found that the details were copied exactly from the birth certificate issued by the Shillong Municipal Board with all minute details including the tagline. He said luckily with the timely intervention of the federation the matter was put to an end.
Also issuing a strong warning against the RRWC to stop meddling with the affairs related to issuing of NOCs or RCs to the people of the area, the FKJGP leader said, “(The RRWS should) instead act in accordance with the notification of the Hima Mylliem 2019 which declared the colony as Them Rynjah or else the federation will be force to tread a different path in order to safeguard our culture and tradition.”
