The four-day Megha Kayak festival organised by Ri Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Cooperative Society at the picturesque Umtrew river in Ri Bhoi concluded on Sunday. Various participants from around the world took part in the event.
Megha Kayak festival is aiming to be the biggest kayaking event in the Indian subcontinent. Over 100 participants from close to 20 countries, both amateur and professional, took part in the event. Locals also participated, including youths from Umtham village.
Representatives of Ri Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Cooperative Society Limited, Ian Vincent and Sheela Vincent expressed their gratitude to all the participants and the people who have been the heart and soul of the event and they hoped more such events are organised throughout the state to boost tourism and in turn the economy.
The festival concluded with prizes being distributed to all the winners of various competitions along with appreciation certificates.
The event saw participants from countries like Italy, Austria, France, Mexico, UK, Nepal and New Zealand.
